Matt is an experienced Orthopaedic surgeon having completed his Orthopaedic surgical training in 2009.

He subsequently travelled to London, UK to undertake further training in knee and hip replacement surgery as well as managing complex sporting injuries of the hip and knee.  Subsequently he travelled to Canada and trained at The University of British Columbia, Vancouver to undertake another fellowship in shoulder surgery as well as additional training in sports injuries of the hip and knee.
 
On returning to Australia, Matt, in collaboration with two colleagues from Queensland set up the Orthopaedic research institute of Queensland (ORIQl) and together they have over 50 publications in international journals on a variety of topics in musculoskeletal medicine.  He has a particular interest in research on novel techniques to minimise infection and pain after major surgery.

Matt operates on conditions of the shoulder, knee, hip and hand.  He has an interest in Robotic hip, knee and shoulder surgery, as well as muscle sparing approaches to the hip and knee.  He is skilled in the use of ultrasound and offers radiofrequency ablation for the hip, knee and shoulder.
 
Matt has a particular interest in Orthopaedic Outreach and has regularly travelled to the Pacific to provide Orthopaedic care and education in areas of need.  Recently he has helped set up biannual visitations to Timor Leste, the poorest country in the Pacific.  Please see the attached link for further information and a link for donations to this fantastic organisation.

Outside of clinical practice Matt enjoys open water swimming, running (slowly), farming (badly) and spending time with his amazing family, wife Jane and three teenage boys.
